A fraction  $$\large{ \frac{3}{8} }$$  is part of a counting number with two parts.  The numerator is the upper part  $$\large{ 3 }$$  and the denominator is the lower part  $$\large{ 8 }$$  of the fraction.

Common Fraction - Both top and bottom are integers.

• $$\large{\; \frac{6}{8} }$$ ,  $$\large{ \frac{3}{4} }$$

Common Denominator - Two or more fractions have the same denominator.

• $$\large{\; \frac{1}{4} + \frac{3}{4} }$$

Rational Number - Numbers expressed as a ratio of two numbers.

• $$\large{\; -\frac{1}{8} }$$ ,  $$\large{ \frac{3}{4} }$$
