Strain is the deformation, stretched or compressed, of a material compared to its original length.

Abbreviated as \(\epsilon\) (Greek symbol epsilon)

\(\epsilon = \frac{ l_c }   { l }\)

Where:

\(\epsilon\) = strain

\(l\) = length

\(l_c\) = change in length

Solve for:

\(l_c = \epsilon {l} \)

\(l = \frac{ l_c } { \epsilon   }\)
