Degree of Saturation
Degree of saturation, abbreviated as S, a dimensionless number, is the ratio of volume of water to the volume of voids.
Degree of Saturation formulas
\(\large{ S = \frac{V_w}{V_v } \; 100 }\) | |
\(\large{ S = \frac{w \; G_s }{ e } }\) |
Where:
\(\large{ S }\) = degree of saturation (expressed as %)
\(\large{ G_s } \) = specific gravity of soil
\(\large{ e }\) = void ratio
\(\large{ V_v }\) = volume of voids (air and water)
\(\large{ V_w} \) = volume of water
