partially saturated soil 1Volumetric water content, abbreviated as \(\theta\), is the ratio of the volume of water to the total volume.

Volumetric water content formula

\(\large{ \theta = \frac{V_w}{V_s \;+\; V_w \;+\; V_a}   }\)

Where:

\(\large{ \theta }\)  (Greek symbol theta) = volumetric water content

\(\large{ V_a }\) = volume of air

\(\large{ V_s } \) = volume of solid soil

\(\large{ V_w }\) = volume of water
