Molar Mass

on . Posted in Classical Mechanics

Molar mass, abbreviated as M, (Metric unit \(\large{\frac{kg}{mol}}\) or \(\large{\frac{g}{mol}}\)), is a physical property of a chemical substance that represents the mass of one mole of that substance.  Molar mass is an important concept in chemistry because it allows chemists to relate the mass of a substance to the number of atoms or molecules it contains.  The atomic masses are typically found on the periodic table of elements, and they are expressed relative to the mass of a carbon-12 atom, which is defined as exactly 12 atomic mass units.

Molar mass is a crucial concept in various chemical calculations, such as determining the amount of a substance in moles based on its mass or vice versa, and it plays a fundamental role in stoichiometry, the study of the quantitative relationships in chemical reactions.
