Total pump efficency, abbreviated as $$\eta_{tp}$$ (Greek symbol eta), a dimensionless number, is the conversion of one form of energy into another form of energy.

## Total Pump Efficiency formula

 $$\large{ \eta_{tp} = \frac{WHP}{BHP} }$$

### Where:

 Units English Metric $$\large{ \eta_{tp} }$$  (Greek symbol eta) = total pump efficiency $$\large{dimensionless}$$ $$\large{ BHP }$$ = brake horsepower $$\large{\frac{ft-lbf}{sec}}$$ $$\large{\frac{Btu}{s}}$$ $$\large{ WHP }$$ = water horsepower $$\large{\frac{ft-lbf}{sec}}$$ $$\large{\frac{Btu}{s}}$$
