Gear Whole Depth

Gear whole depth, abbreviated as \(WD\), is the distance from the top of the tooth to the bottom of the tooth.  This refers to the total depth of the tooth space from the top of the tooth to the bottom of the tooth space.  It is used in gear design and is used to define the size and shape of the gear teeth.  The whole depth is typically expressed as the distance from the tip of the gear tooth to the bottom of the tooth space.  The whole depth is essential in determining the overall size and strength of the gear teeth.  It ensures that there is enough material in the tooth for proper engagement and load bearing capacity.
