Ion

An ion is a term that defines an electrical charge on an atom or group of atoms. They are either a [[cation]] (positive charge) or an anion (negative charge).  Knowledge of the type of charge allows for theoretical prediction of possible compounds which can be formed by the oppositely charged ions.
