Eccentricity
Eccentricity is the perpendicular distance between the line of action of a resultant structural load and the centroidal axis or geometric center of the structural member, support, or foundation about which the load would act concentrically. In structural and foundation engineering, eccentricity occurs when a load does not pass through the centroid. The offset produces a moment in addition to the axial load, which results in a nonuniform stress or bearing pressure distribution.
