Rock Removal Rate

on . Posted in Drilling Engineering

Drilling rock removal rate, abbreviated as \(q_r\), is the efficiency at which rock material is removed through drilling operations.

Rock Removal Rate Formula

\( q_r \;=\;   \dfrac{ b_d^2 \cdot R }{ 11000 } \)     (Rock Removal Rate)

\( b_d \;=\;   \sqrt{ \dfrac{ q_r \cdot 11000 }{ R } } \)

\( R \;=\;  \dfrac{  q_r \cdot 11000 }{ b_d^2  }\)

Symbol English Metric
\( q_r \) = Rock Removal Rate \(ft^3 \;/\; min\) -
\( b_d \) = Bit Diameter \(in\) -
\( R \) = Penetration Rate \(ft \;/\; hr\) -
