Hydrocarbon Pore Volume Occupied by Gas Cap Formula

\( V \;=\; m \; OIP \; B_{io} \; B_{cg} \;/\; B_{ig}  \)     (Hydrocarbon Pore Volume Occupied by Gas Cap)

\( m \;=\;  V \; B_{ig} \;/\; OIP \; B_{io} \; B_{cg} \)

\( OIP \;=\;  V \; B_{ig} \;/\; m \; B_{io} \; B_{cg} \)

\( B_{io} \;=\;  V \; B_{ig} \;/\; m \; OIP \; B_{cg} \)

\( B_{cg} \;=\;  V \; B_{ig} \;/\; m \; OIP \; B_{io} \)

\( B_{ig} \;=\; m \; OIP \; B_{io} \; B_{cg} \;/\; V  \)

Hydrocarbon pore volume (HCPV) occupied by the gas cap is the volume of the reservoir's pore space that is filled with gas in a gas cap, as opposed to oil or water.  This measurement is important in reservoir engineering as it helps in understanding the distribution of fluids within the reservoir and in estimating recoverable hydrocarbons.

Key Concepts

Gas Cap  -  In an oil resrvoir, a gas cap is the portion of the reservoir that contains free gas above the oil due to the natural separation of gas from oil under subsurface pressure conditions.
Hydrocarbon Pore Volume (HCPV)  -  This is the volume of the reservoir that contains hydrocarbons (oil and gas) within the pore space.  It is typically expressed in reservoir barrels (RB) or cubic meters (m³).
Pore Volume Occupied by Gas Cap  -  The volume of the pore space that is occupied by gas in the gas cap.  This is part of the total hydrocarbon pore volume, which includes both oil and gas volumes in the reservoir.
