The pressure rating of comparable pipe material to fitting material.

 

Pipe Pressure per ASME B31.3 (304.1.2) formula

\(\large{ p = \frac{ 2\;t\;S\;Q\;W }{ d \;-\; 2\;t\;y }  }\)   

Where:

\(\large{ p }\) = pressure rating

\(\large{ S }\) = allowable stress

\(\large{ y }\) = ASME B31.3, Table 304.1

\(\large{ Q }\) = quality factor

\(\large{ t }\) = wall thickness of pipe

\(\large{ W }\) = weld joint strength reduction factor ASME B31.3 Para. 302.3.5(e) (Typically = 1.0)

 

Solve for:

\(\large{t = \frac{ p\;d }{ 2\; \left( S\;Q\;W \;+\; p\;y \right) }  }\)

\(\large{ y = \frac{ OD \;+\;2\;c }{ OD \;+\; ID \;+\; 2\;c }  }\)   

Where:

\(\large{ y }\) = ASME B31.3, Table 304.1

\(\large{ ID }\) = inside diameter of pipe

\(\large{ OD }\) = outside diameter of pipe

\(\large{ c }\) = sum of mechanical allowances plus corrosion and erosion allowances
