Ball Valve Designated Flow Patterns
Ball valves can have designated flow patterns, and while there's no universal lettering system, common types of ball valves are often described by letters that refer to their port configurations and flow paths.
Ball Valve Common Flow Patterns
T-Port - These valves are designed with a T-shaped bore that allows for three-way flow. They can connect the center port to either side port or both, enabling flow in multiple directions. Often used in applications requiring mixing or diverting flow.
L-Port - These valves have an L-shaped bore, allowing fluid to flow from the center port to only one of the side ports at a time. This configuration is used primarily for diverting flow rather than mixing.
X-Port - This is less common and typically refers to a four-way ball valve with an "X" pattern, allowing for even more complex flow configurations.
In these cases, “T” and “L” describe the pattern or shape of the flow path inside the valve, rather than specific letters stamped on the valve. For exact flow configurations, it’s usually best to refer to the valve’s technical documentation, as manufacturers may use their own systems to denote configurations.
