Abrasive
Abrasive is a material used to remove material from the surface of another material through mechanical interaction such as rubbing, grinding, or friction. In engineering and materials science, abrasives are typically hard particles or hard surfaces that wear away a softer material during relative motion between the two bodies. The fundamental mechanism is abrasion, in which microscopic cutting, plowing, or scratching actions progressively remove small amounts of material from the workpiece surface.
