Absolute Value

A numbers distance from zero.  it is never a negative number even though the distance from \( \;0\;\) goes both directions.  Its a number without a sign, \( \; |8|=|-8|=8 \).            

• \( \; |x|=x \;if\; x\ge0\)
• \( \; |x|=x \;if\; x<0 \)
