Spring Travel Length

Spring travel length is the distance a spring can compress or extend from its free (uncompressed) length to its fully compressed or extended length.  This value is used in designing systems where springs are used, such as in suspension systems, machinery, or shock absorbers.

 Spring Travel length formula

\( T \;=\;  \dfrac{ P}{n_s }\)     (Spring Travel Length)

\( P \;=\; T \cdot n_s \)

\( n_s \;=\; \dfrac{  P}{T }\)

Symbol English Metric
\( T \) = Travel Length \( in \) \(\ mm \)
\( P \) = Spring Load When Compressed to Length \(lbf\;/\;in\) \(kg\;/\;m\)
\( n_s \) = Spring Rate \(lbf\;/\;in\) \(kg\;/\;m\)
